Description

Chapter 4's most useful pattern in one picture: across seven life stages, executive demands rise while external scaffolding drops — and the shaded gap between the lines is what a person must supply themselves. Click any stage name for its typical ADHD picture, what scaffolding just dropped, and the classic failure mode. The college cliff is unmistakable: demands near their maximum exactly where scaffolding hits its minimum.

Two controls carry the chapter's argument. The rebuild toggle overlays a third line — support deliberately rebuilt through planners, coaching, accommodations, and family agreements — visibly narrowing the gap (that line is what Part Three of the book builds). And Follow Amara walks the chapter's undiagnosed case across the stages: coping, coping, straining, collapse at college — then asks where an observer would first notice anything, versus where the condition was present.

Lesson Plan

  1. Read the shape (3 min): Identify the widest gap before toggling anything. Ask why crises cluster there.
  2. Stage stories (4 min): Click each stage; have learners match a person they know to a stage.
  3. Amara (3 min): Step through the walkthrough. Discuss why "she was fine until college" misreads the data.
  4. Rebuild (3 min): Toggle the third line. Ask which specific supports would move your stage's green dot up.
