Description

Families fail accommodation processes at specific steps — the verbal request that started no clocks, the plan that was never reviewed, the letters never activated. This navigator maps both US pathways from Chapter 12: K-12 (written request → school evaluation → the 504-versus-IEP fork → maintenance) and college (student self-identifies → documentation → interactive process → per-term activation). Every node opens with what happens there, what goes in writing, and the classic mistake.

Load a scenario — Amara (the 504 path her mother's written request unlocked), Dev (the IEP path his dyslexia required), or the college freshman — and the path lights up. The who-owns-each-step toggle color-codes ownership, making the chapter's hardest lesson visual: every node on the college path is student-green, and there is no parent slot in it.

Lesson Plan

  1. Walk both paths (5 min): Click every node on each side; collect the classic mistakes.
  2. Fork logic (3 min): At the decision diamond, discuss which of your real cases fits 504 versus IEP.
  3. Handoff (3 min): Toggle ownership. Parents list which orange/purple steps they currently perform for a student within three years of the college path.
  4. Paper trail (2 min): List the documents a complete path generates — request email, report, plan, letters.
