Description

The late-diagnosis journey of Chapter 4 has a recognizable arc, and people mid-journey are steadied by knowing where they are on it. This map draws the seven stations — trigger, recognition, deciding to seek help, the gauntlet, the evaluation, the result, and the aftermath — along a winding path. Click any station for its content, including the near-universal "what if I'm faking?" doubt (named and normalized) and the relief-braided-with-grief double bind at the end.

The emotion strip shows the typical feeling at each station. The family view toggle re-annotates every station for the book's second reader: what a supporter can usefully do at that stage — and the well-meant moves that backfire, from the eleven forwarded articles to "at least you know now" in month one.

Lesson Plan

  1. Locate (2 min): If someone in the room is on this journey, ask them (privately or aloud) to find their station.
  2. Walk (5 min): Click through all seven in order, reading the person-view content.
  3. Switch roles (5 min): Toggle family view and re-walk. Family members note which "not useful" item they've already done — most find at least one; that's normal too.
  4. Debrief (2 min): Discuss the aftermath station's rule: relief and grief coexist and neither cancels.
